The following images were created with a photo-chemical printing process. Other materials including watercolor, ink, graphite, coffee, gouache, and hand stitching are added. All works are on paper.
When no one is looking
Scenes from a blissful domestic life
Gallery of unreasonable fears
What do we do when we think we are alone? How do we act with our partners? How do we measure ourselves against archetypal fantasies? These are all ideas explored in these images. Using the silhouette as everyman (or everywoman) this body of work takes a look at our internal lives and private vs. public selves.
Working with cyanotype and Van Dyke brown printing as my base, I build layers of patterning and silhouettes. I am intentionally creating a disjointed sense of space. The images are then finished with a variety of materials and stitching to create texture and add emphasis.
Each concept (such as “Scenes from a blissful domestic life”) is addressed with a series of images meant to be viewed as a whole. The narratives are intended to be metaphorical and influenced by the viewer's personal experience.
